The Electra floor heating mat consumes only 75 watts of electricity but saves many times that in room heating. Insulates feet of office personnel while providing warmth. Originally designed for the Bergin Brunswick pharmaceutical company. These battery operated portable terminals were manufactured for use in inventory control applications. The operator enters the inventory control number, merchandise on hand and unit price. After all the pertinent data has been entered, the warehouse is telephoned, the handset is placed in the acoustic coupler and all the information was transferred to the host computer.
With a little imagination these FSK data terminals could be used at an logging device by storing data on the internal digital tape recorder. Or may be used as a remote input terminal for your existing computer. The system is supplied with portable digital cassette drive unit, removable entry keyboard with LED display, acoustical coupler and battery charger with five Gould NiCad batteries, which may be too old to hold a charge. Original cost on the acquisition system was over $2,500, at $27 they should make be a great project for any experimenter.

X-10 Controls

Control lamps, appliances and electronic equipment anywhere in your home—from anywhere in the world. X-10 controllers super impose digital signals over existing home wiring. Lamp and appliances are turned on, off or are dimmed at the touch of a button. Modules plug into AC lines and lamp and appliances plug into X-10 modules. Controllers are available is several configurations. Four and sixteen button AC powered. Radio-frequency hand helds control devices within 20 to 30 feet of the host. Wake up to fresh coffee, turn on security lamps while away. Clock/timer controllers will automatically operate eight devices at any preset time. Telephone controller is operated by an acoustic remote held next to the handset of any telephone. Forgot to turn off your computer? No problem, simply call home and instruct the X-10 to do it! Speaking of computers. Many companies manufacture computer controllers that allow PC and Apple computers to operate X-10 devices.Virtually any appliance that is operated electrically, can be operated by the X-10.
